Bernt Hillesland, Pastor

Bernt Hillesland, Pastor

The name "Bernt" is pronounced "Bear-nt," one syllable. Bernt grew up in Pasco, Washington and then went to study at St Olaf College in Minnesota, Yale Divinity School in Connecticut, and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA – where he met his wife, Katherine Marshall. She is also a Pastor, currently serving at Holy Shepherd Lutheran in Chatsworth. Bernt's first ministry experience was at the Nativity House drop-in-center for street people in Tacoma, Washington, while serving in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. He served at St Mark's Lutheran Church in Tacoma before coming to Woodland Hills. Bernt's interests include American literature, attempting to learn mandolin, hop-heavy beer, and the wild and fun task of raising five kids. Here's a recent article about me and the congregation. Blog is here.
