About Us:

Statement of Welcome

Our welcome and Jesus' commandment to "love one another" extends to neighbors of diverse racial or ethnic background, physical and emotional needs, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We affirm with the Apostle Paul that in Christ "there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female."(Galatians 3:28) Christ has made us one.

The above statement of welcome was crafted and approved by vote here at St Luke, after a series of challenging discussions. This statement affiliates us with the national organization Lutherans Concerned, as a "Reconciled in Christ" congregation.

Many faith communities say it: "all are welcome." Sometimes it means "we want more members, please." But isn't it true that hospitality towards people - regardless of who they are, without "wanting" something from someone- is a dying tradition in our society? Even next-door neighbors often don't know each other.

For this congregation, "welcome" is first and foremost what we experience, week after week, at the table of Holy Communion, where Christ is the host. We want to share it.
